Empowering Girls Starts With Empowering Their Village

In October 2024, HeyyGirl Foundation Founder Lamekia Davis joined the 6th Annual Girls Who Brunch Tour Chicago Experience, an empowerment event designed to support and inspire girls through education, life skills, wellness, leadership, and personal development.

Held at Betty Shabazz International Charter School in Chicago, the 2024 experience centered on the theme Hidden Emotions and created a space for girls to explore challenges affecting their lives while gaining practical tools to support their growth. Programming included literacy, life skills, STEM education, bullying prevention, self-esteem, leadership development, and business and financial literacy.

Lamekia contributed to the experience by focusing on another important part of a young person's financial journey: their parents.

During the event, she mentored parents of students in grades 7–12, sharing strategies they could use to help their children develop a strong financial foundation.

The opportunity reflected an important part of HeyyGirl Foundation's approach to financial empowerment. Teaching young people about money is powerful, but those lessons can become even stronger when parents and families have tools to continue the conversation at home.

Girls Who Brunch Tour's broader mission focuses on cultivating, inspiring, and empowering girls by connecting them with tools, resources, experiences, mentorship, workshops, and real-world skill building.

That made the Chicago experience a natural space for HeyyGirl's message about preparing young people for financially confident futures.

Lamekia expressed her appreciation to Girls Who Brunch Tour and Prairie State College Board President Camie Ella D. Williams for the opportunity to participate.

For HeyyGirl Foundation, moments like this extend the mission beyond a single workshop or cohort. They create opportunities to share financial knowledge with the broader village surrounding young people.

Because preparing girls for stronger financial futures works even better when the people supporting them are learning, too.
